Student sign-ins
What a student sign-in is
It's a limited account for one student. They sign in and see their own schoolwork — nothing else about your family, and nothing about any other student. You stay the account holder: you agree to the Terms on your own behalf when you set it up, and everything your student can see, you can see too.
What your student sees
Their sign-in is limited to these school pages:
- Today — what's due soon and which classes meet today
- Assignments — their work, grouped by what's overdue, due this week, and coming up
- Schedule — their week, with rooms, times, and teachers
- Grades — their own grades, by class
- Attendance — their own attendance record
- Announcements — updates addressed to students by the co-op
- Class Forums — discussions for classes they are enrolled in
- Notifications — links to their class activity and read-only class notices
- Documents — files their teachers uploaded to their classes, plus files from your co-op's document library that an admin has chosen to share with students
- Messages — on a phone or tablet, a shortcut to the same read-only class notices that live on Notifications. It is not an inbox: your student still cannot send or receive a private message
- Find — a search that only looks at their own classes, assignments, announcements and files
- Account — where they change their own name or password
Class files a teacher uploads show up for every student enrolled in that class, with no extra step. Files attached to a single assignment appear next to that assignment instead. Library documents are hidden from students unless an admin shares them. To share one, an owner or admin opens the Documents page, opens the document's menu, chooses Edit, checks Visible to students, and clicks Save changes. Students can open and download a shared document but cannot change or delete it.
Announcements addressed to students appear on their Announcements page. Updates meant only for the family account, such as billing or registration information, still go to the adults in your family.
They cannot see payments or balances, the family directory, the private-message inbox, volunteer signups, your family's profile, or anything belonging to a sibling. A student may open a class-wide notice from Notifications, but cannot reply to it or send a private message. There is no way for one student to see another student's work.
Most of those pages are read-only. Your student can mark their own work turned in, attach a file with it, and participate in a forum for a class they are enrolled in. Class notices opened from Notifications stay read-only.
Turning work in
Marking work turned in and posting in a class forum are the two things a student sign-in can change. Everything else on it is read-only.
Every assignment on their Assignments page has a Mark turned in button. Tapping it records the date, and it shows up on your side of the app in the same place it would if you had marked it yourself. Un-mark undoes it.
When the work is a file, Attach your work uploads it and marks the assignment turned in at the same time. A photo of a worksheet, a scanned page, or a document all work. Your student can attach up to 10 files per assignment at 50 MB each, add more later, and remove one with the trash icon beside its name. Un-marking an assignment that has files attached removes those files too, so it asks first.
Once a teacher grades an assignment, the buttons are replaced by a line telling your student to talk to their teacher if something looks wrong. What they handed in stays on screen.
Setting one up
emma.smith — because it means your student doesn't need an email address at all. We suggest one and check that it's available. If your student does have their own email, you can use that instead. If that address already has a HomeschoolGo account, usually because your student signed in with Google before you set this up, we email your student a link to confirm it. Once they click it, that account becomes their sign-in. harbor-jungle-16.How your student signs in
They go to the normal sign-in page, type their username, press Continue, and enter their password. There's no separate address to remember. After signing in they land on their own Today page and see the house rules once.
On their own phone or computer, your student can also add a passkey from their Account page. After that, the sign-in page on that device shows Sign in with a passkey, and they can use Face ID, Touch ID or the device's screen lock instead of typing their password. Their password still works.
Resetting, pausing, removing
Open your student's card and choose Manage. Any adult on your family account can do this — not only whoever set the sign-in up.
- Reset the password — type a new one or let us generate it. Existing sessions stop working.
- Pause — sign-in stops working until you resume it. Nothing is deleted.
- Remove — deletes the sign-in. Their classes, grades, and attendance stay exactly as they are, and you manage them from your account again, the same as before.
- View consent record — who set the sign-in up, when, and which Terms they agreed to.
Common questions
Can my student see their sibling's grades? No. A sign-in shows one student their own information. Siblings are invisible to each other.
Will my student get emails from HomeschoolGo? No. Students receive no email by default, and a username sign-in has no email address at all. The one exception is the confirmation link above, sent only when you choose your student's email and it already has an account.
It says my student's email is already used by another account. That address belongs to an account that's already part of a co-op, or is on file for a family, so it can't become a student sign-in. Choose a username instead.
Can my co-op's admin create a sign-in for my child? No. Only a parent or guardian can, because you're the one agreeing to the Terms. An admin can pause or remove one if they need to.
Can my student set up their own family? No. A student sign-in belongs to the household you already have. The “Set up your family” card other members see is never offered on a student sign-in, so there is no way for them to start a second household by mistake.
Can my student use the mobile app? Yes. They sign in to the HomeschoolGo app on iPhone or Android with the same username (or email) and password, and the app shows them their own classes, schedule, assignments, grades, and class forums instead of the family account. They can mark work turned in from the app, but attaching a file to an assignment still has to be done on the website.
What happens if the sign-in goes unused? After 18 months without use, we pause it automatically and let you know. You can resume it in one click.
